    Tzu Chi Academy, Pittsburgh provides local children from kindergarten through high school with quality program not only aimed at student’s language learning but also character building. The school will implement “Still Thoughts” education method to weave compassion, relief, honesty, and integrity into teaching. We will nurture the children in a loving and calm environment; motivate them to learn the Chinese language and culture in today’s diversified world. A creative Still Thoughts humanity and moral-principle course will be added to the curriculum to foster the children with virtue teamwork, great love, respect, calm, and thanksgiving.

• • Background:
    Tzu Chi Academy Pittsburgh was started by Tzu Chi Pittsburgh Chapter in September 2002. In September 2008 Tzu Chi Academy Pittsburgh officially became the 20th Tzu Chi Academy in the US. Humanity education is listed as mandatory in the curriculum. To emphasize both knowledge and life ethics, we hope to weave compassion, relief, honesty, and integrity into the teachings of Still Thoughts education to cultivate children’s wisdom. With the combined efforts of teachers, parents, and volunteers, a loving campus is created to present the special qualities of humanitarian education, to facilitate the growth of the youth.Tzu Chi Foundation, USA is an international charitable organization founded in 1966 by Dharma Master Cheng Yen in Taiwan. The Foundation is devoted to charity work, medical services, education, and cultural enrichment. The word “Tzu” means kindness and compassion, and the word “Chi” stands for relief. Through kindness and compassion, Tzu Chi volunteers are dedicated to supporting all humankind regardless of race, religion or nationality. 匹茲堡慈濟人文學校創立與宗旨

“教育”是慈濟的四大志業之一，慈濟的教育理念除了中文的學習外，最重要的一點是強調下一代的生活倫理道德的觀念，為此使命落實社區，我們要成立人文學校。「人文教育是人格發展的基礎，是人格教育、生命教育、生活教育，也是一門藝術」。如何瞭解孩子的心理，家庭的背景及社會環境對孩子的影響，才能做到圓滿的教育。所謂人文教育就是人與人之間應有的尊重、愛與關懷，我們不僅希望孩子們在華語方面奠下扎實的根基，並且盼望孩子從人文教育薰陶中，學習到如何做一位有愛心的人，以回饋社會。

• • 人文學校的特色：
    不僅是華語的教學，而且每週設有一堂三十分鐘「靜思語教學」的人文課。靜思語教學是「法」，有五段層次，是一教學法。“靜思語”是證嚴上人平日與弟子、會員或社會人士的談話所摘錄下來，並無宗教色彩，只包含許多待人處世的道理，今天我們將這些寶貴的話語，真正落實在平日表現中。此稱為人文課，著重在培養學生具有慈濟人文精神，建立正確的人生觀。人文課是由靜思語擴展成全方位、多樣化的課程，其目標為落實生活教育，增加師、親、生互動。老師及學生一律穿制服，旨在求人間平等，並善於管理。每班均由家長共同組成愛心爸爸和愛心媽媽，來幫助學生並維持上課的秩序，以達到老師用心、學生開心、家長關心的園地。

• • 匹茲堡人文學校創立簡介：
    二00二年八月慈濟匹茲堡為推動「一人一善」、「愛灑人間」、「社會的希望在教育」 ，為啟發孩童良知良能本性及開闊心胸，適時成立慈濟匹茲堡人文實驗班。 二00八年九月匹茲堡慈濟人文學校正式成為全美第二十所慈濟人文學校。學生由當時二十二位增至今日七十餘位。學齡從四歲以上至十八歲。一年32星期。上課時間是星期日早上九點三十分至下午一點。
